Pisa - July 2016

On July 2016 a few of my university friends and I participated in International Volterra Design Workshop. It lasted for nearly two weeks, however If we were about to spend so much time in Italy, if would be a sin not to sightsee some nearby towns, right?  Right!

We started our Tuscan journey in Pisa. I booked a hotel room for us there, so that we would sleep in Pisa and travel to other towns during the day. We were lucky enough to find a hotel right next to Pisa Central station so it was just perfect.

Frankly, we haven't spent much time in Pisa, basically an afternoon and two evenings. We saw the main attractions, the Cathedral with Baptisterium and obviously The Leaning Tower. But apart from that (what most tourists who visit Pisa do not know) Pisa offers so much more. It was our first encounter with Tuscan towns, so we were amazed by the climate of orange streets as they were. The alleys were so narrow and chaotic, it was fun figuring which way we should go.

There was a city square with arcades, that I really liked. It was a nice open space contrasting with the maze of narrow alleys.

We also watched a beautiful purple sunset at the bank of Arno river and enjoyed our evening out in a street cafe chatting with a bottle of local Tuscan wine. Magical.

In general I am a big fan of monochromatic shots, however in Italy I was very reluctant to take off any of these beautiful italian colours. Anywhere you looked the colours were creating a perfect  composition, there were no elements what would not match the whole picture. The walls, the window blinds, the cathedrals, the nature, the blue sky... Perfect. So there are just a few black and white shots this time.

Enjoy! More Tuscany is here to come!
