Berlin/Heide Park/Potsdam - May 2015

In Poland we have a national holiday on the 1st and 3rd may, people don't to to work, kids dont't go to school, students... travel! "The long weekend" is always an irresistible opportunity to go on an adventure, right? This time I decided to go on a trip to Berlin, which was organised by Independend Students Society of Warsaw Univeristy Of Technology.

The itinerary was quite packed. We departed from Warsaw in the evening and drove for the whole night. In the morning we arrived at Heide Park - an amusement park near Soltau.

We spent an entire day there riding rollercoasters (and waiting in the queues for them). I was never in an amusement park before, and my friends decided to ride the biggest rollercoaster first so I was totally in shock when I rode it, but liked it so much I wanted to do that again. It was called The Collossus and it's one of the biggest wooden rollercoasters in Europe. After checking out all the rides available, my absolute favourite was "Flug Der Damonen" (it's on the photographs below, the one turning up-side-down) and frankly it was the most thrilling experience I've had. The park itself was very pretty, all the urban furniture was stylised and well detailed so it was very pleasant to stroll around.

Next day in the morning we had a voluntary trip to Potsdam. The town was nice, much different than Berlin as it had many historical buildings unaltered by the II World War. The main attraction of Potsdam is a baroque Palace with its gardens. As a typical baroque residence - there was symmetry everywhere, lots of statues and much more stairs than necessary. Basically.

We spent a couple of hours on the gardens only and we still hadn't seen it all, it was an enormous complex. It was totally worth the visit.

After returning to Berlin, my friend and I separated from the group and did some sightseeing on our own. It is a very interesting city, very diverse in it's architecture and atmosphere, a mix of quality modern, historical/monumental, communist buildings which is an indicator of vibrant history of the city, but naturally we know that from history classes. We did not have much time there, so we did a really basic tour of most important landmarks (only exteriors, sadly we couln't enter any museum because of that).
