Odense - February 2017

Four our second trip we went to Odense, just two days after visiting Aarhus. Odense is located on the Fionia island, south-east from Horsens in the direction of Copenhagen. This time we were joined by my new flatmate from Estonia, so we got an international feel of the trip already.

Once again we traveled by train and we drove through a bridge connecting Jutland with Fionia but unfortunately it was so foggy we saw nothing.

Odense was charming. Full of great historic buildings perfectly maintained like churches, small cottages... even though everything was in the "colour of wet brick" it looked so consistent and full of adorable details. The Danes pay a lot of attention to that.

What did we see? At first we did a round of the old town, the main streets, squares, churches. I personally loved the Domikirche located by the main square with its brick exterior and minimalistic white interiors.

Ah, now have a look of how adorable some of these houses are. These are just a few examples out of how entire streets look like. No wonder Hans C. Andersen wrote fairy tales...

What a rebel do we have here!

Later on we wandered off the touristic trails for a bit and strolled down some contemporary residential districts of Odense. Yes, they were equally as charming as the old ones.

Oh, and speaking of Hans Christian Andersen we have visited museum dedicated to his life and works. I would recomend a visit there, it was a modern museum with lots of interesting information about this eccentric writer, as well as his sketches, cutouts, publications, objects etc... We spent more time there than we initially planned.

We also visited a gallery of photography (after some trouble with locating the right building), which had a touching exhibition of war photography.
And then we returned.
