Clevedon - September 2017

Off the beaten track!

Once I looked up how close Bristol is to the sea (or actually - the Bristol Channel) I instantly made up a plan to see some part of the seaside as well. I wasn't exactly sure where to go so I looked up a few nearby coastal towns on google street view and picked literally the second one I saw.

It was called Clevedon (which I mispronounced in my head until the bus driver corrected me) and was about 15km from Bristol. A bus was running there every half an hour, I hopped on and drove there for a quick look-around.

Now, Clevedon is a small town, really small. It used to be a fancy victorian tourist resort and now it's a popular destination for retired people to catch some fresh air at the seaside. September was off-season, so there wasn't much going on in the town anymore. Just a few habitants carrying on with their lives and a few elderly tourists. And me.

The town itself was adorable, though.

But the most uncanny thing there is a lovely pier dating back to victorian times. It's on of the eldest victorian piers in the UK that is still in existence. It was surprisingly high for a XIXth century wooden structure, i was impressed. And all the cute wooden details on the pagodas...

That day came with a beautiful weather, for a late september day. Walking on the pier in the afternoon sun was one of the most pleasurable moments of that month for sure. And on the other side of the channel you can see Wales.

Have a look!
