During the workshops we got a sunday off, so we decided to go to the seaside. Our tutor who knows Tuscany very well gave us a hint to visit the small town of Populonia. It is located on the western coast of Italy, on a very high hill that gives a breathtaking view on the coastline.
We rented a car and in a group of 5 people drove through charming tuscan landscapes up to Populonia. I was taking pictures from the window of the car, the shots are random but yet satysfying.
We finally arrived after some trouble with the car. The view from the parking was already outstanding, have a look.
Populonia itself is a very small town, it has just a few habitants now. There are just one or two restaurants, gelateria, souvenir shop... it's definitely not used to having a lot of tourists, it is still pretty unseen. Nobody can deny its natural charm, though. The main attraction of the town is a medeival castle, where for a symbolic fee we could get on the top of the tower and get the best view possible.
After lunchbreak we descended the hill. Down and down we went off the road, walking for over half an hour on a narrow path through a dense forest. The beach indeed was empty, there were only a few people apart from us. It was so aesthetically satysfying, but swimming on this rocky shore was a bit painful. Nevertheless, we got the chill we deserved after the workshop.
