Vienna - August 2016

We arrived to Vienna at 4:40 AM after a night in the coach. It was so surreal, my friend and I got out of the vechicle, sat on the platform... and giggled from the tiredness. We had to wait until the metro was working, then headed straight to our hostel to drop our luggage. We could not check in until 2 PM so... despite being really tired we went to the city centre to sightsee. We were in the heart of Vienna around 8 AM, the streets were empty, barely any tourists on sight. Thanks to that we had an opportunity of seeing the Cathedral and vicinity of the Hofburg (palace) in the most peaceful scenery imaginable.

We were strolling like that until 2 pm. Seen all the historical centre, walked down to the canal and then up to Karlsplatz. Finally, we checked in and slept in the hostel for over 4 hours. We went out in the evening and we were lucky enough to be in Vienna during Filmmusik festival - there was a giant screen set up in front of the city hall where every day different spectacles were played, free of charge. We saw Cinderella ballet and a string quartet concert.

Next day we went to Shonbrunn palace. Versailles of Vienna, they call it. True, the palace with its gardens and additionl buildings were very impressive. We have seen it only from the exteriors. Climbed up the hill from where we had a brilliant panorama for the palace and Vienna in the distance.

Later on we travelled back to the centre and visited Kunsthistorisches museum  - art history museum. Both my friend and I interested in art history we spend a few hours admiring paintings of old masters and roman and baroque sculptures.

My favourite museum was definitely the Belvedere, though. That's where we went the third day. The building is just beautiful, very detailed in floral ornaments, all painted in white. Both exterior and interior combining in a beautiful whole. The art collections aquired by the museum were a tresure, we have seen the exhibition of Gustav Klimt, and lots of works by friench impressionists.

As we walked out of the museum dark gloomy clouds appeared over white Belvedere. It did look amazing but we did not admire the sight for too long, we fled to the city centre trying to escape from the upcoming rain.
