Oxford was an excursion that I have actually planned a long time before going. Thanks to this I managed to buy train tickets on route London Marylebone - Oxford for merely 10 quid (return). The journey was less than an hour with no stops ibetween. Sitting in the train and staring out of the window was my first true contact with english countryside that was not a part of the great London metropolis. I felt so content.
But now, Oxford!
An ancient town located in Oxfordshire in South West England on the river Thames. Thames actually splits into a few canals that wrap the old town adding up to its undeniable charm. However, everybody knows that is not wht it's famous for. You have heard of the prestigeous University of Oxford, right?
Let's have a first look at the most famous university town in the UK.
(Cambridge would probably disagree with that statement, but that is not the point here)
Oxford is old, it's the first thing you will probably notice. Most buildings are made of stone giving it a yellowish look. Just strolling around the centre I stumbled upon the major college buildings that are impossible to miss. No wonder the Warner Bros. desided to film a numer of Harry Potter scenes there.
