Catania - February 2019

Catania is the second largest city of Sicily after Palermo, located on the seaside on the east of the island. It was my first excursion to any district of south Italy, so I was quite excited. Even the airport has its runways right by the coastline so that during landing I had the impression that the plane will land on the water. Most importantly, it lies by the feet of Etnea volcano, it is peaking through the alleys of the city being forever present in Catania's daily life.

To be fair, this wasn't my favourite city in the universe. The sight of a magnificent steaming volcano was what I like most about it. However, it did have its nice spots. I don't remember the names though, sorry!

That one street that still had christmas vibes going on was one of my favourites, I think. It looked so cozy in the night and offered plenty of bars and restaurants to drop by.

It is very green, with many parks and trees growing in either pots or in soil. Most of my attention was focusing on people. We stumbled upon a fruitmarket for local people, which was nice to observe. Then we headed off towards the northern part of the city in order to see the sea.

To end our day in Catania we climbed the tower of Church of the Badia di Sant'Agata. For basically the whole day we were looking for a good frame to capture Etnea volcano, and from the there the view was absolutely stunning and perfect. On one side there was Etnea and on the other Saint Agatha's cathedral overlooking the main square.

We stayed up there for over an hour to see the sunset and it was so worth it.

We also desired to spend a day at Catania's public beach. Well, but the problem was that the beach is quite far from the centre and the road leading up there was badly indicated and very unpleasant for pedestrians. After a tiring walk we eventually got there and it was nice.
